Pre-Fall 2012 Favorites

Helmut Lang

Although it is a continuation of their summer collection, Nicole and Michael Covolos always know how to execute their clothes beautifully! The street style-impelled collection is prominently characterized by snug leather jackets, below knee-length biker pants, and sharp-shouldered blazers. The simplicity of the garments is contrasted by the precise, exquisite tailoring, giving it that needed cohesion that makes it Helmut Lang.

McQ by Alexander McQueen

Taking inspiration from the English countryside, Sarah Burton infuses Victorian-esque elements into the younger, more accessible, sister line of McQueen. This collection, however, is prominent for its subdued sophistication, rather than an avant-garde edge, providing a nice contrast to its savant associate. I'm extremely excited to see McQ finally showing its first time at London Fashion Week. If it will be a continuation of the Pre-Fall collection, then I am immensely ecstatic!

 Theyskens' Theory

I may be a bit bias, but I've always had a thing for Olivier Theyskens' ability to mix simplicity with grunginess and contrast femininity in opposition. I love the girl he is always designing for. His Pre-Fall collection is no different. Flowy, soft dresses are infiltrated with black leather blazers and beautifully tailored crew neck knits and T-shirts. To give it that "cool" and sophisticated element, Theyskens' pairs black combat boots with numerous outfits. This collection may be one of the quieter ones this Pre-Fall, but it sure makes a thundering statement.

 3.1 Phillip Lim

Who says spring has to be characterized by bright, loud colors? At first glance, the color palette could be mistaken for fall. However, at a closer glance, you might see elements of abstemious silhouettes and light textured fabrics, of which is a delineate of spring. The idea of designing a collection inspired by comic books might make one uneasy, but Phillip Lim executes it fantastically without being too literal (Nicolas Ghesquiere should take notes!) He definitely has the ability to render new and innovative creations without losing his signature touch and keen eye for tailoring.
